Christmas in July: Day 24 - Multicolour Cross Hatch

Welcome back! Today is the 24th day of Christmas in July and the pattern of the day is a multicolour cross hatch stocking. The pattern shows the colours on black but if you prefer you could do it on white too.

Christmas in July: Day 23 - Aurora

Welcome to Christmas in July day 23!This pattern was inspired by the Mucha princess patterns Pinky the Pink has made, this one uses the colours of Aurora which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!
Aurora's pattern calls for some blended colours but no backstitching or beads. Blending threads is easy! You just take 1 thread of each colour called for and use them together as a single thread - that's all there is to it!

You can find the pattern here

I'll see you tomorrow with the next Christmas in July pattern!

Christmas in July: Day 22 - Celtic Red

It's day 22 of the Christmas in July project and we are in the final countdown till the end, just 9 days left. Today's pattern is inspired by an illuminated manuscript and was used on a very small bit of Celtic Wolf's cheek, now it's being allowed to show its true beauty to you.

Welcome to day 21!  It's been 3 weeks now since I started giving these patterns and I hope you have all enjoyed them, there are only 10 patterns left for me to give, and it feels a bit unreal really. Today's pattern was inspired by the Mucha princess patterns Pinky the Pink has made, this one uses the colours of Mulan which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Christmas in July: Day 17 - Celtic White and Gold

Its day 17 and time for another Christmas in July pattern. Today's pattern is inspired by an illuminated manuscript I saw (I see lots of them as I watch #medievaltwitter on twitter). The pattern and colour combination are very simple yet stylish. Although I did it white and gold you could do it in any combination you like.

Christmas in July: Day 16 - Elsa

Its day 16 of the Christmas in July freebies! That gets us to the middle of the month and from now on you will have been able to collect more patterns than there are patterns left for me to share. This pattern was inspired by the Mucha princess patterns Pinky the Pink has made, this one uses the colours of Elsa which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Christmas in July: Day 15 - Celtic Green and Gold

Welcome back for the 15th Christmas in July pattern! Today's pattern is a Celtic green and gold pattern inspired by a medieval manuscript I saw, I used it for a small bit of the Celtic Wolf pattern I designed, but it's perfect for a stocking too!

Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Christmas in July: Day 13 - Red and White

Today is the 13th day of the Christmas in July freebies. Today's pattern is a nod to the Nordic style a simple red and white stocking in all DMC with only a small amount of straight stitches.

WIP Wednesday

It's WIP Wednesday and somehow, despite all the busyness of doing daily patterns and doing the pre-holiday blog post writing work, I have actually found time to stitch too. As always first the Vakje per week. Last Friday's pattern was a darning pattern, and as has become their habit there were 2 pattern options: darned and cross stitched. And as always I did both.

Christmas in July: Day 12 - Celtic Red and Gold

Welcome to the 12th day of Christmas in July! Today Some very traditional colours with a medieval pattern. This is another of the patterns used for my Celtic Wolf that wanted to be a stocking.

Tuesday, 11 July 2017

Christmas in July: Day 11 - Anna

Welcome to day 11! Today it's Anna's turn, one of my favourite fob patterns and I'm very happy with the stocking pattern too. You can find Pinky the Pink's Anna pattern that inspired the patterns here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Monday, 10 July 2017

Christmas in July: Day 10 - Tiana

Welcome to day 10! This pattern was inspired by the Mucha princess patterns Pinky the Pink has made, this one uses the colours of Tiana which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Christmas in July: Day 9 - Bonus Pattern

I bet you were not expecting this to show up! It's my youngest son's birthday and in The Netherlands it's the tradition to give people a treat (usually cake or something nice to eat). I thought I'd give you the gift of a pattern instead, I was sure you wouldn't mind!

Christmas in July: Day 9 - Kida

On the 9th day of Christmas in July you are gifted another princess pattern! This one was designed based on the colours of Pinky the pink's Kida pattern which you can find which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Christmas in July: Day 8 - Celtic Red, Black and Gold

Day 8 has arrived and with that the second Celtic illuminated manuscript inspired stocking. This one I saw a couple of weeks ago and just had to use it for a stocking, there is something about the style of their backgrounds that draws me to make them into patterns.

Friday, 7 July 2017

Christmas in July: Day 7 - Pocahontas

Welcome to day 7 of the Christmas in July stocking project, I can't believe a week has passed already! Today is another princess day! This time it's one of Pinky's brand new patterns that inspired the stocking! You can find Pinky the pink's pattern here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Christmas in July: Day 6 - Esmeralda

Day 6 has arrived and with that another stocking pattern! Today is the third of Pinky's Mucha princess patterns, this one uses the colours of Esmeralda which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

WIP Wednesday

It's that time of the week when I show off what I have done during the past week - or not as the case may be... This week in Vakje per week I got to have some fun making a mistake and NOT ripping it!

Christmas in July: Day 5 - Celtic Blue

Hiya all! I hope you are enjoying the patterns so far! Today's pattern was the first of the stockings I designed and is inspired by a background in an illuminated medieval artwork. I used it as a background in my Celtic Wolf embroidery but always felt it deserved a starring role.

Tuesday, 4 July 2017

Christmas in July: Day 4 - Ariel

Welcome to the 4th day of freebies! I hope you have been having as much fun as I have so far! Today is the second of Pinky's Mucha princess patterns, this one uses the colours of Ariel which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more! The Ariel fob can be found here

Christmas in July: Day 3 - Neutral Flowers

Welcome to day 3 of the Christmas in July month of freebies! Today the pattern has been designed using neutrals as the colour scheme, not everyone's cup of tea but easy enough to change if it isn't yours.

Sunday, 2 July 2017

Christmas in July: Day 2 - Jasmine

Welcome to day two! Today's pattern features the colours of the Mucha princess pattern Pinky the Pink has made of Jasmine which you can find here (if it hasn't sold out yet as it's a limited edition pattern). Pinky's Etsy shop can be found here with more princesses and much, much more!

Christmas in July: Day 1 - Red Gold and Green

Welcome to the first day of 31 where I give a free stocking pattern for you to (eventually) stitch! The good news is that I don't expect you to be able to stitch every single one during July! If you make the complete pattern for today, with left and right facing stockings you would stitch 2682 stitches and 38 inches of backstitch. Or just 1341 stitches and 19 inches of backstitch if you did just the one, but both are too much for most people to stitch in a day.

Friday Freebie: Blackwork Fob

This week a pattern that can be done in any thread and in any colour - or lots! It would also be perfect to stitch with variegated thread. As its 50 stitches for the stitched area and 52 if you include the backstitched line that's intended to whip stitch front and back together it would also make a nice pincushion or biscornu, especially if done on 14ct Aida or 28ct evenweave.

Christmas in July: Overview Post

It's almost July and time to let you know a little of what I have in store for you in July. As I have mentioned before in a few of my recent posts I am planning on giving a new freebie every single day during July!

WIP Wednesday(ish)

Last week I showed you the end of a row of my Vakje per week - and the last of this batch of greens. This week I can show you the start of a new row and a new colour: brown

June TUSAL

My little jar where I keep the ORT's
My jar is looking a bit full as I've been very busy again this month which means this post will be very picture heavy! For those of you wondering what on earth a TUSAL is: it stands for Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long and its just keeping all your threads etc. from stitching in a jar and then posting once a month (or so) what you stitched since the last post.

Friday Freebie: Illuminated Square

This week's freebie pattern was inspired by an illuminated manuscript that Emily Steiner tweeted. It's only a small section of the background but it stands well on its own too.

Wednesday, 21 June 2017

WIP Wednesday

Last week I showed you the two variations offered for the Vakje per week project, last Friday they only gave one pattern (fortunately!)

Saturday, 17 June 2017

Friday Freebie: Surrounded

This week's freebie started with me wanting to use DMC 995 and because it goes so well with black and white I added those too. The nice thing of course is that any colour goes well with black and white so if you don't like DMC 995 you can swap that out for any colour you like!

Wednesday, 14 June 2017

WIP Wednesday

Last week was the first of the odd shaped boxes for the Vakje per week, this week the next. The pattern given last Friday was a darning pattern and because some people were having trouble with the darning patterns on Aida they also gave a cross stitched alternate version.

Friday Freebie: Be True

This month is pride month so I thought it was only right and proper to honour the gay friends I've had over the years with a pattern. The first friend that I knew was gay I met when I was just 13, and the fact that her mother was extremely homophobic made our friendship very difficult as her mother decided that my friend wasn't allowed any female friends at all.

WIP Wednesday

Yes, this week I did do the Vakje per week, it was a nice pattern and with a bit of tweaking to the space I wanted to use it fit nicely too. I had to tweak it because of not doing the one before that I didn't like (and wouldn't fit as it was a full alphabet)

May TUSAL

Front of jar with my needle minders - the dragon is being helpful and holding a needle for me.
I'm really late for this but then it's not as long this time as it was last time (a year hehe). My jar is pretty full as I've been very busy which means this post will be very picture heavy! For those of you wondering what on earth a TUSAL is: it stands for Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long and its just keeping all your threads etc. from stitching in a jar and then posting once a month (or so) what you stitched since the last post. It's a good way of seeing that you stitched more (or occasionally less) than you thought.

Friday Freebie: Red and Black Optical Illusion

Sometimes with the right placement of colour you can trick your eyes a bit into thinking more is going on if you stare at it long enough, I can't guarantee this is one of those designs but this pattern will certainly trick your eyes while you are stitching it!

Wednesday, 31 May 2017

WIP Wednesday

Rather surprisingly I didn't do the Vakje per week pattern last Friday as the pattern given was an alphabet and I don't really like them much. Hopefully they will have something I do like this Friday! Instead I worked on last week's Friday freebie which when you last saw it looked like the photo above.

Friday(ish) Freebie: The Glorious 25th of May

I'm running a bit late today, if you are in a later time zone than I am (CET) then it's probably still Friday for you, otherwise it's definitely late. It is a tribute to Terry Pratchett's book Night Watch but also to Pterry himself as the 25th of May has also become a day when people wear lilac for Alzheimer's.

Surprise Freebie! 1st Century French Tile Floor Biscornu

It's Monday so not freebie day but sometimes it's nice to surprise people! A while back I saw a photo of a 1st Century tiled floor that was recently excavated in France and thought it would make an amazing biscornu so I made this pattern.

Friday Freebie: Power Flower Ornament

Sometimes the oddest things can lead to inspiration and end up as a pattern - this is one of those times. It all started with my bf having no power at his work and tweeting about it, me responding and saying I'd have a coffee for him and Vicki of the power company responding to that. It was a fun convo and set my thoughts on the right track to creating this little ornament - though it doesn't look much like power any more, it did when I started it.

Wednesday, 17 May 2017

WIP Wednesday

Last week I had a bit of fun doing some speciality stitches for the Vakje per week, This week it's back to cross stitch again - a lovely little pattern that was done in no time - especially as I was doing it in a box that's only 27 stitches square.

Journey: Day 9 - Is It The End?

Last time you saw this I'd just finished adding the dried river bed and I was considering the next bit to do. I stopped to get the Friday freebie and the usual Saturday Vakje per week made, which meant I got some time to consider what to do next.

Friday, 12 May 2017

Friday Freebie: Vines Squared

This week a pattern that will work very nicely with variegated threads - or with something shiny or just your normal threads!

Wednesday, 10 May 2017

WIP Wednesday

Last week saw the finish of a row of mini squares on my Vakje per week - this week sees the start of a row of slightly larger squares. The pattern was challenging, despite my love of Algerian eye stitches, as the directional change kept on throwing me off - and let me tell you that it's no fun ripping out tiny Algerian eyes!

Journey: Day 8

Having finished the roadworks on the left it was time to add that road on the right - or river as I mentioned yesterday. I had a think about things and it seemed to me that it would be more logical for the river to be dried up as this is a desert scene and if the river was a water filled one then there would be little point in having the choice of the oasis in the middle.
